Designing better mental healthcare facilities

IHP to deliver new £50 m Children and Young Person’s facility

Integrated Health Projects, the VINCI Construction UK and Sir Robert McAlpine joint venture, has been appointed to deliver a £50 m Children and Young Persons' (CYP) mental healthcare facility for the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.

To be known as the Pears Maudsley Centre for Children and Young People's Mental Health, the new centre on the Trust’s Denmark Hill hospital site in Camberwell, next to King’s College London’s Denmark Hill Campus – will represent one of the most significant current investments in mental health care in the UK. It will bring together ‘world-leading experts’ in clinical care and research from South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) and King’s College London’s Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN).

With 9,100 m2 of floor space spread over 8 floors, the new CYP facility will enable clinicians and scientists to collaborate and identify treatments for the children, young people, and their families.

The new facility has been designed by IBI Group, with a key design feature being multiple external roof terraces, with the tiered design enhancing movement of natural daylight into all areas.

Work began on site in March this year under the ProCure21+ framework agreement, and is due to complete in May 2023. PM/QS for the project is AECOM/Gardiner &Theobald, with the structural engineer, WSP Group, and Troup Bywaters + Anders providing MEP design.
