Collaboration key on Epsom ED energy efficiency upgrade

As part of scheme to upgrade the energy efficiency of the Emergency Department at Epsom Hospital in Surrey during the COVID-19 pandemic, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust Hospital specified REHAU’s curtain walling and TOTAL70C windows.

With the installation set to take place in an extremely busy department at the pandemic’s peak, seamless collaboration between the selected supplier and the other project stakeholders was critical to minimise disruption to the work of the Emergency Department and operating theatres.

Due to the project’s complexity, critical infrastructure specialist, Hanevo, was brought in to facilitate the design and build. JM Aluminium was then awarded the contract for the installation based on a list of recommended commercial installers and fabricators provided by REHAU, while LH&E Cost Consultancy provided cost consultancy and contract administration services.

The project saw the installation of 20 TOTAL70 windows in a foil wood grain finish, alongside complex curtain walling installation. All in all, the project took 16 weeks.

Kevin O’Neill, Commercial manager at REHAU, said: “Collaboration can often be a buzzword across the industry, but I don’t think I’ve worked on a project that epitomises it more than this. The outcome simply wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work and adaptability of all of our stakeholders – from design through to installation. Minimising disruption was our main priority, and the Trust told us it was delighted with the lack of complaints it received, so we hope to lend our expertise to similar projects in future.”
