Cygnet Health Care will open a new women’s mental health facility in Stoke-on-Trent this summer, allowing more women to receive the support they need closer to home.
Cygnet Hospital Kidsgrove will be a 31-bedded hospital supporting women to receive emergency mental health support and specialist rehabilitation. The new service, part of the Cygnet Health Care division, will have two wards – Crocus Ward, for acute admissions, and Burleigh Ward, a ‘highly specialised’ Personality Disorder service.
Victor Mudarikwa, Cygnet Health Care Operations director for the Midlands, said: “Stoke-on-Trent has higher rates of mental ill-health than the country average, a gap that has widened over the last decade. The addition of this new service in the region will support women struggling with their mental health, and is part of Cygnet’s ongoing commitment to providing state-of-the-art services which deliver compassionate, safe, quality care that meets the unique needs of those who need it.”
The new hospital’s opening will bring new jobs to the area, including clinical, nursing and administrative roles. Victor Mudarikwa added: “When fully open this summer Cygnet Hospital Kidsgrove will be a fantastic addition to our existing mental health services, making an enormous difference to those who may have otherwise needed to have travelled further distances for their care and treatment. “We have worked with former patients, families, staff, and local people to ensure we have a brilliant new hospital which will provide a therapeutic environment where wellness is at the forefront.”
