Bringing ‘smart water technology’ to more users

Cambridge-based water technology start-up, Infersens, the ‘innovators’ behind the ‘intelligent water sensor’, says its new Cortense Starter Packs ‘offer a simple, expandable way for commercial and private property health and safety professionals to experience the power of smart water monitoring first-hand’.

Launched in February 2024, Cortense offers a dual-sensing approach that measures both water temperature and flow dynamics  ‘with minimal lag’. Cortense said: “It goes far beyond traditional Legionella-focused monitoring systems by providing insights into water usage patterns, detecting abnormalities such as too few or excessive flow events, and helping identify potential health or efficiency risks before they escalate.”

The Cortense Starter Packs offer potential users the opportunity to trial a bundle of two, five, or 10 Cortense sensors for ‘minimal investment’. The ‘bundles’ come with fully supported set-up and a custom dashboard, so users can visualise data and get actionable insights for their outlets within 24 hours.

Cortense says that while ‘traditional’ water monitoring tools often focus solely on measuring temperature to support Legionella compliance, its technology ‘delivers deeper insights’ – detecting frequency of water flow events and the duration of every usage event, allowing users to:

  • Detect underused outlets at risk of stagnation.
  • Identify taps left running or unusual flow patterns.
  • Reduce unnecessary water consumption.
  • Optimise safety and sustainability efforts.

Each Cortense sensor is battery-powered, wireless, and easy to install on existing pipework – with no plumbing modifications or specialist engineers required. The platform’s ‘straightforward’ cloud-based dashboard provides visual data insights and usage trends with minimal set-up.
