Door ‘in a permanent state of attack-readiness’

Meesons, a provider of anti-tailgating entrance control solutions, has introduced Rev 190, which it claims is the world’s first revolving door to achieve certification to Loss Prevention Standard (LPS) 1175: Issue 8 up to C5 (SR3).

The company explains that LPCB certification of the Rev 190 Revolving Door to LPS 1175 ‘provides independent verification that it will deliver the significant levels of resistance to forced entry by hostile actors – be they burglars, terrorists or protestors’.

It said: “The LPS 1175 standard reflects a broad range of threat scenarios, including tool attacks by intruders acting without fear of attracting attention to their actions by using tools and entry techniques likely to generate sustained levels of noise. This is a threat not necessarily covered by other security standards, such as EN 1627, as explained in BRE’s Façade security standards Specifiers guide.”

Completed in two phases, the extension was built to provide additional patient accommodation. The project’s first phase, completed in July 2017, saw the installation of Sika-Trocal’s Type ‘S’ waterproof system across a 2,000 m2 area of roofing. The manufacturer says the 2 mm-thick, mechanically fastened, single-ply membrane’s ‘renowned adaptability’ was ideal, as it had to cover a number of intricate roofing details.

‘Tilt-only’ blinds and a highly professional service

'Tilt-only' magnetic blinds from BetweenGlassBlinds have been fitted to specialist flats recently created at a ‘high dependency’ mental healthcare facility home in Bushey in Hertfordshire.

The specialist unit helps people dealing with varying levels of mental illness. On site, residents live semi-independently, while receiving intensive specialist care from trained mental health workers. As part of the creation of a number of new, specialist flats, BetweenGlassBlinds supplied tilt-only magnetic blinds for fitting to all the external windows by window supplier and fitter, Window Care Herts. As an increased safety measure, the integral blinds were fitted between specially toughened, clear laminated glass. BetweenGlassBlinds worked with the window installer’s team to ensure that the magnetic blinds could function smoothly through thicker glass, with technicians from both companies visiting the site to make bespoke, on-site adaptations to the integral blinds. The magnetic blinds are operated via a neat and unobtrusive sliding magnetic block located around the perimeter of the unit, on a completely cordless system.

Invisible to the human eye, this avoids disturbing those sleeping in secure rooms. The ‘true day / night camera’, which can reportedly capture clear, sharp colour images in light levels as low as 0.3 Lux, also features Wide Dynamic Range (WDR), which performs at up to 120 dB, ‘to accurately produce images in scenes that simultaneously contain very bright and very dark areas’.
